  • Sjögren's Syndrome is not contagious.
  • Sjögren's Syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease.
  • Sjögren’s can also cause complications of other organs such as the kidneys, gastrointestinal system, blood vessels, lungs, liver, pancreas, and the central nervous system.
  •  4 Million people have Sjogren's Syndrome.
  • 9 out of 10 patients suffering from Sjögren's Syndrome are women.
  • On average it takes 7-10 years to receive a diagnosis of Sjögren's Syndrome.
  • Sjögren's Syndrome can exist on its own or with other autoimmune diseases.
  • There are 2 types of Sjögren's Syndrome. 
    • Primary - where the disease is the primary illness.  Primary Sjögren's Syndrome tends to cause the most complications with organs besides the eyes and mouth and can be serious.
    • Secondary - where the disease is secondary to another autoimmune disease. Secondary Sjögren's Syndrome mainly affects the eyes and mouth, making them very dry.
  • There is no cure for Sjögren's Syndrome, the symptoms however are treated individually as they occur.
  • Patients suffering from Sjögren's Syndrome must take extra care of their eyes, mouth and teeth.
